The 4 principles of Dr Ralph C. Smedley, founder of Toastmasters International

Morag Mathieson explained Dr Smedley’s 4 principles in her speech at the last Board meeting.

She is the current International President of Toastmasters International, the world’s leading organization devoted to communication and leadership skills development.

Morag Mathieson has been a Toastmaster since 2006 and is a member of the Erlangen Toastmasters club in Erlangen, Bavaria. She has held numerous high-profile leadership positions within Toastmasters and has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation, the organization’s highest educational achievement.

As International President, Morag Mathieson is the highest-ranked officer on the Toastmasters Board of Directors. She emphasizes the importance of empathy and vulnerability in leadership, stating that “Empathy as a leader is taking a genuine interest in the people around you, finding out what makes them tick, what inspires them and the way they feel.” Morag Mathieson is the second-ever International President from Europe and the first female one from outside North America, a milestone she finds particularly meaningful.
